Plant Health Products Award for Best Biocontrol Paper or Poster

The Plant Health Products Award for the Best Biocontrol Paper or Poster was presented by MD Dr Mike Morris to Theresa Pretorius from the University of Pretoria at the SASPP (Southern African Society for Plant Pathology) Congress in January 2011.

This is a new award initiated by Plant Health Products to recognise good research and presentation in the field of biological control in South Africa. It is hoped that it will become an annual award.

The award comprises a certificate and a monetary prize for the student whose paper or poster presentation on biocontrol is judged to be the best at the congress by a panel of judges appointed by the Congress Organising Committee.

The title of the winning poster presentation by Theresa Pretorius and her supervisor Prof Nico Labuschagne  was "Efficacy of rhizobacteria for growth promotion and biocontrol of Fusarium spp. on wheat in South Africa".

Dr Mike Morris is a long-serving member of the SASPP and in 2002 was elected as a Fellow of the Society. This is a rare honour that is bestowed upon certain members in recognition of support for and service to the Society and to Plant Pathology.
